Jamie Oliver’s Plans To Tackle Childhood Obesity

JamieOliver2TV chef and healthy eating campaigner Jamie Oliver has launched a petition calling for improved     food education in schools around the world.

The petition urges governments to provide practical food lessons to children in an attempt to improve the current rising childhood obesity levels.

The World Health Organization (WHO) regards childhood obesity as one of the most serious global public health challenges for the 21st century. Obese children and adolescents are at an increased risk of developing various health problems, and are also more likely to become obese adults.

Figures from 2013/2014 show that a third of 10-11 year olds and over a fifth of 4-5 year olds were overweight or obese. (WHO)

Jamie Oliver is urging people to support his latest campaign, he believes it is essential that we arm the next generation with the skills they need to live happier, healthier, more productive lives. If nothing is done to improve these childhood obesity statistics, the next generation will live shorter lives than their parents.

The petition was started on 23rd March and already has more than 400,000 supporters. You can find the petition at www.change.org
